The Majority of young fit adults who play football sincerely believe they will never get injured.

Unfortunately every year we record thousands of claims, from Broken toes and fingers, to loss of sight or on 2 occasions amputation of a limb.

When a player has an injury which keeps him or her off of work for more than 4 weeks serious hardship can follow.

There are many companies who now will only pay statutory sick pay and take the attitude, why should they pay wages to someone who is injured whilst playing their chosen sport, when that person should be insured for their sport?

At Sportsguard we always recommend to leagues that they should arrange a League Scheme for Personal Accident Insurance. Firstly it will be far cheaper to do so, as a league rather than an individual club. Secondly the league has the peace of mind in knowing all their players are insured.

Our experience is that when a player is injured the first question asked, are we insured and if not why not?

The people who suffer are spouses and partners and of course children.

The reason this cover is in place is to get a player through a hard period of time, not to make him rich.

Sportsguard will pay the claims even if the player is paid from work because he will not get his overtime or bonuses and there is always hidden expenses when this happens.

Students and Unemployed players will be paid up to a maximum of £20.00 per week because although they would not lose an income they would incur expenses.

Sportsguard are the only company in the UK who include Life Insurance as mandatory because if a player does die it is generally from natural causes and not an accident. In the past year Sportsguard have paid out £35,000 with 3 Life Insurance claims.
